Forget the Globes! It's All about the Green Grammy Awards
Posted by Suzy Byrne on January 4, 2008 - 10:10am.
The darn Writers Guild of America strike is wreaking havoc on award show season, which means as much to this celeb addict as Fashion Week means to a fashionista. I. Live. For. It. So far the live People's Choice Award show has been scrapped (a pre-taped special with actors giving acceptance speeches will air in its place) and the Golden Globes —set to air January 13— are in peril as well. With the acting award shows in jeopardy, it seems like the show to watch this year is going to be the Grammys... and this year they're going to be a little greener.

At the Hollywood Goes Green conference held in early December, there was discussion of how the Natural Resources Defense Council will be “greening” the Grammys—which air Feb. 10 at 8pm on CBS — by reducing emissions, using recycled products and biodegradable dishware and providing presenters and staff with hybrid vehicles. No word on whether Kanye West will reuse an old acceptance speech, but you can almost guarantee Amy Winehouse will recycle her famous red bra and wear it on Grammy night. Nearly every time that unhygienic twit is photographed, she's wearing the same fire engine red bra. Wonder what smells worse: that bra or her outta control bouffant.

In other award show news, The Office's Rainn Wilson has been tapped to host the Independent Spirit Awards, which I told you are majorly green this year... down to celebrities —gasp!—carpooling to the event. In a press release, Rainn expressed his excitement at being show host, saying: "It is truly an honor to be asked... I like to think that I bring a bit of an ‘independent spirit’ to the proceedings as I recently installed a gun rack in my Prius."

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are continuing their love affair with New Orleans — where Brad is building eco-friendly homes for Hurricane Katrina victims — and that's where the Jolie-Pitt clan spent the holidays. On Brad's 44th birthday — December 18 — the happy couple and kiddies No. 1 and No. 3 (a.k.a. Maddox and Zahara) were seen biking around The Big Easy. Nice to see them giving those SUVs a rest.

These days I'm more interested in Paul McCartney's dating life (Rosanna Arquette?!) than anything else he has going on, but this headline caught my attention: Paul McCartney Urges World To Go Veggie For The Environment. It seems Sir Paul is telling people to ease up on meat consumption and eat more veggies. Funny — living a vegetarian lifestyle is probably the only thing Paul and his soon-to-be ex-wife, Heather Mills, agree on.

For the bargain price of $300, you can have a little bit of Sting. Well, Sting's garden that is. The Police frontman and his tantric sex partner, er, wife Trudie Styler created 100 wicker Christmas baskets with products from their organic farm in England. For your three Benjamins, you can indulge in organic cake, jams and more that celebs like Sharon Osbourne have been buying. With record sales somewhere between complete total crap and abysmal, celebrities are coming up with more creative ways to take our money.

Kim Cattrall got a little diss last week for reportedly throwing out her green Christmas decorations in favor of energy-sucking ones. But she's worked her way back into my good graces by donating the furs she wears in Sex and the City: The Movie to PETA. It seems that Samantha wears fur — Kim does not. PETA plans to put giant Xes on the dead animal skin, shave them (diminishing any resale) and donate them to the homeless. Maybe they could give one to a homeless-looking Amy Winehouse. Anything not to have to see her wandering the streets of London in that dirty red bra.

That is not the kind of green ($300 ) recycling I would think of doing even though  their food is organic.  Wouldn't it be better to recycle our "greens" to more worthy causes such as feeding the hungry and homeless families in our country.
