Seeing as the tree in New York City's Rockefeller Center has been lit, the holiday season is officially underway. Tony Bennett, Josh Groban, Brooke Shields, Nick Lachey and Ashley Tisdale were among the celebrities there for the flipping of the switch in Manhattan. One big difference this year is that the 84-foot-tall Norway spruce is sporting energy-saving bulbs and solar panels on top of a nearby building will help power them. Tis the season to go green...
You know actress Lili Taylor. Her name may not be as well-known as Angelina Jolie, but you've seen her in movies like Say Anything, High Fidelity and I Shot Andy Warhol or in TV's Six Feet Under. I caught up with Lili, who's promoting her new movie, Starting Out in the Evening, and chatted with her about the efforts celebrities are making to help the environment.
"Well, I wish I could say that I'm much more active," says Lili, who recently moved from Manhattan to Brooklyn, NY. "I try to do what I can on a daily basis. I could do more. Though I also feel that the government has to step up too. To place it all on the individual — we've got to do our part, but I do my recycling, I do my stuff — it's so measly if the government doesn't start to work on some policies. I don't think it's fair for us to take on all this, while major polluters are getting away with murder. It's just out of balance."
Lili's going to have even more to balance next month: She's expecting her first baby – a girl – with her partner, Nick Flynn.
Although I never realized beer was "out," Page Six Magazine reports that it's officially in again. And the mag says that the perfect beer for environmental lovers like Christy Turlington and Alicia Silverstone is a kind called Orlio Organic Beer. The ale is made with vegan hops and barley, and is "the favorite of New Yorkers who want to eat and drink green." Bottoms up!
Not everyone can be Julia Roberts with her environmentally-friendly diapers. Actress Keri Russell told Newsweek: "I would love to do the cloth diapers, but I can't cut it. I'm ruining the Earth with my diapers. I'm sorry." Apology accepted, Felicity. Though I'll still never forgive you for cutting your hair during season two.
