Flirting With Raw Foods
Posted by Su Avasthi on January 16, 2007 - 8:03pm.

Okay, I admit it: I am raw-curious. I do wonder what it'd be like to live on uncooked foods -- at least for a week. Or maybe I'm just intrigued by the culinary challenge of trying not to cook vegetables, fruits, nuts, and seeds.

In all honesty, I don't see myself experimenting with an all-raw diet anytime soon. It is soup and hot cocoa season, after all. But once the weather warms up, I'd be willing to spend a week figuring out how to turn hamster food into, well, gourmet hamster food, like lasagna and pizza.

I realized this earlier this week, as I was checking out Time.com. I found one man's first-hand account about his adventures in the raw. He intended to try it for one week. He lasted three days. Nonetheless, he learned some interesting things along the way (not the least of which was the importance of Beano). What did him in wasn't a lack of tasty, creatively-fashioned food. It was the toll that the strict diet took on his social life.

On the other hand, it might be fun to invite friends to a raw dinner party. At least, I'd solve some mysteries. How do they make dumplings out of nuts and berries? How can raw foodists claim to eat burritos and nachos? Armed with some good raw un-cookbooks, these culinary puzzles would be fun to solve.

Of course, people in the Raw Food Movement — aka raw foodists — are in it for the health benefits. They don't see their diet as a brief kitchen experiment. They're converts because they believe that eating uncooked foods prevents and heals the body and chronic diseases. Heat, they believe, degrades essential nutrients and enzymes that aid digestion, among other things. If any raw foodists swear by this diet, please share your thoughts.

Meanwhile, I'm pretty sure that any health boost would be fleeting for me, because at the end of the day (or the experiment, anyway) I can't imagine life without gooey slice of hot, cheese pizza.

Cravings!

I too was a raw food junkie for about 3 weeks.  It was not as hard as I thought it would be and I did feel like I trimmed down a little.  However, I did it in the summer when fruits and vegetables are so wonderful and plentiful that it helped.  Needless to say, it did not last and it took me awhile to look at a salad again.  If this is a lifestyle you would like to pursue, you really need to be committed to the philosophy and truly believe in the medicinal purposes to sustain you when you are tempted to stray into that pizza or chinese restaurant. Those girl scout cookies never tasted so good!!!!!

Raw is fun!

I really enjoy articles about Raw Food and Cuisine because it is usually the first time that person or writer has tried it. Raw food is many things to many people. For many it is a lifestyle and is really fun. Food is about having fun and raw delivers it in a totally new innovative enjoyable delicious way. Like other diets or food trends, there are many different styles and products to choose from and it is highly recommended that people read up on the best books on the subject. It also is much better to transition slowy into incorporating more raw food and to enjoy the process instead of just jumping in and expecting instant results or conversion into a new vast world. Raw food cuisine has so many super delicious new experiences just waiting for you to discover . There are enourmous amounts of totally new selections to try, recipes to learn and the best desserts that you can ever taste. And yes it is all raw organic and healing the planet! I have seen so many miracles in the raw world and everyday I learn something new that raw organic cuisine can treat, cure, remedy and how much fun it is to enjoy this incredible new exciting food trend. I have written a best selling raw organic recipe book that is very fun, easy and super delicious, it is titled RAW IN TEN MINUTES. I was able to combine everyone's favorite comfort and junk foods with new innovative simple recipes/techniques and instructions that even a child can prepare in just 10 minutes or less and because there is no "cooking" involved it is ready to eat and enjoy! I read the Times Magazine Article and it was fun to read but there literally is enough different raw recipe books, foods, products and restaurants to try than the one mentioned in the article. It is really fun to sample different raw recipes and foods because there is such a wide range of styles, selection and unique tastes available now if you go online to research it you will find a huge new Raw World and industry that is gaining a lot of popularity. When raw cuisine is made properly people feel an incredible energy and sense of well being after eating it. Because with the right recipe and techniques raw can mimic "cooked""baked""deep fried" foods with similar looks and flavors but is so much healthier and people feel super happy after eating it. Proper raw cuisine can balance your body's natural Ph level, add oxygen, nutrients, naturally anti age and rejuvenate you in the most incredible ways possible. My book and recipes teach you how to do achieve this really easily and the taste is incredible as well. Many celebrities have proven that it works, from Demi Moore who went RAW before she filmed Charlie's Angels 2 and everyone loved how radiant she looked to Super Model Carol Alt who wrote a raw book about how it saved her life and gave her the best health possible. If you search online you will discover many incredible benefits on top of a super delicious way of eating. Food is about having fun and so I am promoting RAW as a new fun way of eating and being healthy. I would recommend that people check out all the information online and find out for themselves what it is all about because after eating it you will love it and feel really great. When you have a chance please visit my website, it has all the information and great photos at: http://www.RawInTen.com and please check out ALL the links!

I would love to try a raw

I would love to try a raw food diet but I think I would benefit from a book that gave me some ideas rather than just blundering into it and over dosing on lettuce?! Can anyone recommend a good book that would help?
