Oh yes. Very much. I'll be covering that in a future post, but yes. For a number of reasons you might not expect -- but then, when it comes to home repair, nothing should ever be "expected."

Did you figure all of these costs when you purchased this home? Its seems that you are doing an awful lot of work or was that the plan all along?

I think every homeowner ends up paying for more than he originally intended. But one of the bigger problems with our place is that our inspectors -- the guys we paid to check out the house before we bought it -- were useless. They failed to notice any of the problems we're now working on -- the failing boiler, water damage in different spots, venting issues, etc. The lesson here is you should check references -- lots of them -- when hiring an inspector.
