Appetite for Deconstruction 2: Architectural Salvage
Posted by Philip Higgs on July 12, 2007 - 8:43am.

Previously on Reduce Reuse Remodel, I said that until we get a permit to build the new studio, I don’t want to tear down the old one. Today I say, Pshaw—waiting for the permit is getting frustrating. And even if the new plans don’t get approved, I’m still going to need to rebuild the studio, so it’s still going to need to come down, right? Right. Waiting around for a permit is getting frustrating—as the summer quickly slides away – so that’s what I’m telling myself. I’ve started that inventory of what can be salvaged from the old building. A few entries from that list…

Wow you have some old vintage stuff going on there! I think it all looks beautiful, that is one thing I loved about CO is all the older buildings, from like Pioneer days! But as for those  windows in the first picture I think they are beautiful and you should reuse them, but instead of putting in regular windows, I suggest Milgard Suncoat. Their windows are the best keeps the cool in and heat out or vice verse. Hope you figure out what you are going to do with everything else too!!

Why wait

I agree, no sense sitting back when there's work to do. With my father in the construction biz I know a little about the permit process. Even if they don't approve this set of plans they will eventually approve something similar. You might have to make one or two changes but it will basically be your same design.

So go for it. Get that sledgehammer out and make those ants homeless!
