Noted pilot John Travolta delivered a sobering lecture to reporters and fans at the U.K. premiere of his new motorcycle film, Wild Hogs. Travolta said, "Global warming is a very valid issue. I'm wondering if we need to think about other planets and dome cities." Others are wondering if maybe we to think about stopping ourselves from zooming around in private planes and promoting movies that celebrate gas guzzlers.
Three cheers for recycled furniture! The sectional sofa from Ron Howard's office isn't headed for the curb or the landfill. It's for sale on an internet auction site, Gawker reported this week. Though it's said that the couch was kept far away from the casting department, fastidious consumers are refusing to bid on the item until it becomes clear how exactly Billy Baldwin got that part in Backdraft.
Former Sex & the City costar Cynthia Nixon was seen in Manhattan's Riverside Park reusing a plastic baggy that she'd seen placed in the trash moments before. While in certain eco-friendly communities it may thrill onlookers to see a celebrity take something out of the trash for further usage, the Upper West Side woman who witnessed Ms. Nixon's actions was apparently disgusted, although not so disgusted that she didn't pester the star for a photo.
Karl Rove, aka MC Rove, is drawing heat from PETA based on his performance at the Washington Radio and Television Correspondents' dinner, in which he said his pastimes include, "ripping the tops off animals." Ingrid Newkirk wrote Rove a letter to tell him that he suffers from "a severe compassion deficit." It's rumored that Rove responded, "Well, yeah. That's sort of my whole thing."
Madonna not only uses environmentally-conscious cloth diapers on her own children, but she pushes them on others! The pop legend/mother was spotted in a Beverly Hills park while changing her son's diaper when another mother said, "Wow! I didn't even know they still made cloth diapers." Madge supposedly launched into a thirty-minute speech about the environmental disadvantages of disposables, and ended up convincing everyone in the crowd that had gathered to make the switch. There have also been recent reports of Madonna single-handedly re-freezing melting ice caps, bringing snow back to Kilimanjaro, and inventing a car that runs on love.
