Brad Pitt Ponders a Better Life
Posted by Joshua W. Jackson on August 24, 2007 - 3:25am.

This week Brad Pitt visited New Orleans, where construction is underway on the green housing project Pitt has developed with Global Green. At the request of reporters, the former Oscar nominee briefly stepped away from the toolbox and got onto the soapbox, saying, "We can't keep consuming ourselves into extinction." Pitt went on to dream, "What if a city could produce more energy than it consumed? What if it could actually filter the air instead of pollute it?" and, "What if I could be as revered as Angelina?"

The woman who claims to be the original supermodel, Janice Dickinson, gathered up a slew of young male models, took off most of her clothes, and marched through Hollywood to start the week. Ostensibly, Dickinson and friends were marching on behalf of PETA and animals endangered by the fur industry, but the only noteworthy difference between Monday and any other day was that Dickinson carried a sign.

Broadway legend Bette Midler cut down more than 200 trees on property she owns in Hawaii, and was fined by the state and forced to participate in a "replanting program," according to the Associated Press. Midler's attorney claimed she was only interested in "improving the lot with native species," and many quickly point to the singer/actress' previously unblemished record of environmentalism in defense. Some skeptics, however, are convinced Midler ordered the property cleared to strengthen the breeze in her backyard, thus giving her a better wind beneath her wings.

Stephen Colbert reportedly filmed a recent interview with green investor Richard Branson. Apparently upset because Colbert and his producers asked him not to plug a new Virgin plane, Branson dumped his mug of water on the host. Colbert was handed a bottle of water and reciprocated. Environmentalists were mildly irked by Colbert's water waste and plastic bottle usage, but figured Branson has bought the right to do whatever he wants with natural resources.

While many celebs continue to drive Hummers, international movie star Bill Murray chose a low mileage vehicle to get from a club to his hotel during his trip to Sweden this week. Embarrassingly for Murray, not only was that vehicle a golf cart, but he was pulled over for drunk driving in it. Swedish police administered a blood test after the screen icon refused a breathalyzer. It will take 14 days for the results to come back, but the humiliation was surely instantaneous.

I was so disappointed when I read in my local paper that the Divine Miss M had cut down all those trees! I knew it would be reported here and wasn't disappointed when I logged on today. Thanks for posting the whole article Josh, it told more of the story. I just hope it's true that she was naive and will plant native trees......

Oh my gosh, I did not hear about Bette! That is horrible; I never thought she would do something like that. I absolutely love Bill Murray, he is so hilarious in his movies! He was one of my favorite actors when I was younger, Ghostbusters! I give major props to Bill and Brad!
