Gore Turns the Other Cheek
Posted by Joshua W. Jackson on June 22, 2007 - 9:30am.

Al Gore was asked this week to discuss comments made by Live Aid founder Bob Geldoff, who has previously criticized the effectiveness of Gore's Live Earth concerts. Gore politely stated that Live Earth organizers are committed to reaching important goals, and said, "I have nothing but good things to say about (Live Aid organizers)." Although his response was crafty, sensitive, and politically correct, Gore still hasn't admitted that he's going to be our next President.

Senator and former presidential candidate John Kerry has written an update on the senate's energy bill for our friends at Grist. Kerry writes that the bill as-is does not go far enough and lacks spine, and he feels it's foolish to push through a governmental decision that, while nice and decent in theory, doesn't amount to a distinct and powerful change from the status quo. Kerry's critics say they're glad he learned something from his '04 loss.

Arnold Schwarzenegger was recently honored at Heal the Bay's benefit dinner. Brian Wilson received an award at the event as well, and Ford auctioned off a hybrid SUV. The most embarrassing moment of the evening came when a gaggle of photographers mistook the massive vehicle for the Governator; not only are they approximately the same size, but they also both seem to love the environment despite their macho, rugged exterior.

French President Nicolas Sarkozy announced that he was not, in fact, drunk during this month's G8 meeting, which focused on energy efficiency and climate change, ending with a verbal, informal agreement that G8 nations would cut their carbon emissions by at least 50% in the next half decade. Clips of Sarkozy speaking with a slur and staccato rhythm have popped up around the web and on European television, causing many to wonder if he had indulged a bit too much. German Chancellor Angela Merkel points out that if Sarkozy were intoxicated, she would have gotten him to agree to much bigger emissions reduction.

Mike D, surfing enthusiast and member of the Beastie Boys says he personally has seen the effects of global warming on his surfing trips, stating, "There's a huge amount of beach erosion that nobody is seeing. It's right in front of your eyes." Alarmingly, Mr. D did not complete his observation in the form of a rap, despite the ample availability of global warming-skeptic related words that rhyme with eyes (lies, despise, denies, unwise, demise...).

Leave it Alone

Al Gore has done everything he knows to do to try and educate this World about "Global Warming" because he cares!  Instead many people like Bob Geldoff want to kick him in the teeth.  Shame on all of you who criticize someone who is working not for the good of themselves but for the good of mankind!  If YOU don't have anything GOOD TO SAY KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT!!!

Just poking fun

I too agree that Al Gore is doing everything he can to address global warming and I admire him for that. Unfortunately he is a politician and politicians are easy to poke fun at, as are celebrities (see article above.)

Now how do we get Al Gore to run for president and really have the opportunity to do something about global warming?

I have to say that as much as I would love Al Gore to be the next president... I don't think he'll go for it. Besides, I'm sure that supposing he does go into it, will he have time to concentrate on green issues as much as he's doing now? I'm sure that there will be a lot of fixin to do after bush.
