Huge companies have huge incentives for making greener products and encouraging consumers to think eco-mindedly. Here are a few companies who are taking strides that both you and the planet can benefit from.
>> LG refrigerator owners: A bunch of LG refrigerator models have been stripped of their Energy Star ratings — because they weren’t as energy efficient as promised! The good news is that LG will give you money as reimbursement for the energy savings you didn’t get! LG will also send out a technician to replace your fridge’s circuit board, free.
>> Brita filter owners: You can now recycle your used filter cartridges at a number of Whole Foods — or by mailing it in to Preserve’s Gimme 5 program. Try to at least collect a few filters before sending them in so you can save on packaging materials and reduce shipping carbon emissions.
>> Dell electronic owners: Get gift certificates for your old electronics by using Dell Exchange, a simple mail-in rebate program. Or if your e-dud’s no longer worth any money, drop it off at one of the participating Goodwill stores to recycle it, free!
