The New Doable Green Diet
Posted by Siel on December 16, 2008 - 3:10pm.

Sure, you already knew that eating less meat and more veggies would keep both your carbon footprint and waistline in check. But did you know that you only need to eat eco-healthy about half the time to get all the benefits?

In Readers' Digest, Mark Bittman shares his Simple Till Six diet plan — eating almost no animal products and no simple carbs until 6pm, after which anything's free game. "I had little trouble eating this way .... Within four months, I'd lost more than 35 pounds and was below 180, less than I'd weighed in 30 years."

Maybe it would have become easier for all of the U.S. to eat as healthfully as Mark if Michael Pollan, author of The Omnivore's Dilemma, became the new Secretary of Agriculture. Pollan's launched pollanforsecretaryofagriculture.org, and found 400+ supporters for his cause on Facebook.

After all, it's so easy to eat bad, unhealthy, earth-destroying food in this culture, what with trans fats and sweeteners being in so many of the products we eat. If you're annoyed by those high fructose corn syrup ads run by the Corn Refiners, you'll be delighted by this spoof of those commercials, made by the makers of the eco-docu King Corn.
